Stories of IMPACT/CONNECTION/RENEWAL/GOD'S LOVE

A Case of Mutual Gratitude

Testimony from a Connection Center Volunteer

An older gentleman had been homeless for quite a while and just recently moved into an apartment.  He had absolutely no furniture, so he called the Love INC Littleton Connection Center. While he was sharing his story with me over the phone, you could hear he was in the lobby of the apartment complex by the mailboxes. Every time someone walked into the area, he would pause the phone conversation and greet them. You could tell he was delighted to have neighbors and a sense of connection.

All he wanted was some furniture since he had none and was sleeping on the floor. So I explained about Furnishing Hope. We also discussed a Renewed Treasures voucher and a food bank resource that might be useful to him as well.

Then at the end of the call, Connection Center volunteers always do two things:

  1. Ask if there’s something the neighbor is grateful for.
  2. Ask if we can pray with them.

The man said to me, “I am grateful talking to a nice lady, who is willing to help me and also grateful for God’s love.” And to the offer of prayer, he said “Let’s pray for each other and pray for a strong trust in God.”

He was so grateful and happy at the end of the call, thanking me repeatedly.

What he didn’t realize is that he had made my day!
