Love INC’s Back to School a Success

The Back-to-School Event at Renewed Treasures on Saturday, July 22, helped 195 children and their parents find clothing for the coming school year. Love In the Name of Christ Littleton provided vouchers to the parents for the clothing.  During the morning the children were also able to tryout the Jump House Castle, do a little face painting and some other creative crafts–all for free. Plus, each child received a backpack. The shopping area was shaded, and the weather was sunny and nice. Hot dogs, chips and dessert were served for free by the Rotary Club of Littleton as were snowcones!

A volunteer serving as an interpreter when needed, met a woman as she was signing in with her son who mentioned she was formerly from Chili. Since the volunteer had served with the Peace Corps in Chili many years ago, they had a nice chat and found they both had a favorite soccer team–the Colo Colo.

The Kids Clothes Help Appreciated

One family had moved from Houston and were still trying to settle and keep their heads above water.  There was no extra money for clothes and this event was an opportunity to get clothes and backpacks for the four boys and their little sister. She said how many nice people she had met at the event.  Her children enjoyed the creative table and face painting and were very well behaved.

One woman learned about the Event at a food bank. Her middle school daughter picked out two shirts and a couple of cargo pants.  Her young son who had his face painted like spiderman enjoyed the hot dogs and got some clothes too. This event helped so much she said because she can’t work as much as she wants as she has a brace on her leg and is unable to stand for long periods. Fortunately, at her job they let her work flexible hours.  She doesn’t know what she would do
without the help of the community.

Lots of Fun.

The Bowdens music group had toes tapping as they played a variety of songs and took requests. A cheerful and colorful clown wandered the Event giving treats to children.

During the Event, even though there were many children, most had smiles, no yelling, well behaved and were just enjoying the day and the fun things there.  They threw their trash away after eating and one kindergartener even offered to take a volunteer’s trash to the can for her.

Love INC Partner Churches collected clothes for months prior to the event which then helped some 80 families clothe their children. Fifteen area groups also helped by collecting new clothes, backpacks and more: Ace Hardware, Amplify Chiropractic, Book Club of Lockheed Martin Retirees, City of Littleton, Jazz Car Wash, Koko Fit Club, Light Lounge, Lisa Bush-HomeSmart Realtor, Massage and Sports Recovery, North Littleton Promise, Romano’s Italian Restaurant, Rotary Club of Littleton, Row House, Thrivent Action Team, and Vita Littleton.

All in all, quite a success!
