7/10/19 – For breakfast the next day, I had biscuits and gravy with sausage (dehydrated). It was pretty tasty!! Today, we would finish segment 10 and meet up with friends Bruce Houtchens and Mark Ely to continue our adventure. We had a short, downhill hike remaining to reach the Mount Massive Trailhead (end of segment 10). We met several hikers going the other way who were bound for the Mount Massive summit. One group of young hikers had a dog with them that had an antenna attached to it. Apparently it sent out a signal in case the dog got separated from the group. We reached the trailhead by around 9:30, where Bruce picked us up, so we could reposition vehicles for the segments 12 and 13 hike.

Mt. Massive Trailhead
Bruce drove us back to Tennessee Pass and we took some time to put on a change of clothes and to restock our packs. The next few days will include some steep climbs, so we all dropped a bit of weight from our packs. We then drove to the endpoint of our next hike (Avalanche Trailhead) and met Mark Ely there. We left 2 vehicles at the trailhead and loaded up to go to the segment 12 starting point (Clear Creek Reservoir). We stopped for a quick lunch at Subway in Leadville on the way – is that cheating? I don’t think so! 😉
